6 Ways to Stop Hair Loss

hair growth diet

Hair loss is fairly common and may result from hormones, medical conditions, extreme stress, treatments such as chemotherapy, and more. Hair loss can range from thinning to total loss of hair, can be temporary or permanent, and can affect all ages and genders. People who have gout or other conditions that require them to limit protein intake should avoid collagen supplements. This article will discuss collagen protein and hair growth, collagen types and hair application, who should not use collagen for their hair, and alternatives to collagen for hair growth.

Stimulating Hair Growth With Supplements

Vitamin E teams up with selenium to keep cell membranes strong and provide antioxidant defense. It could also be linked to “telogen effluvium,” the name for hair loss caused by a major life stressor, such as giving birth, a death in the family, a new job, or moving. These triggers will likely require a more multifaceted treatment approach.

Should Anyone Not Use Collagen for Their Hair?

When people lose a significant amount of weight, they may experience hair loss. A very low calorie intake and protein restriction can negatively affect health in many other ways, too. “Generally speaking, if the trigger goes away or whatever caused the injury to the hair follicle, then the hair will recover over a period of four to six months to a year,” says Dr. Bergfeld. Your doctor will also look at other areas on your body like your eyebrows, lashes, underarms, pubic area, legs and arms to assess if there’s hair loss. Working with a dermatologist, you can begin identifying what might be causing your hair loss. Your doctor will ask about your health, your medications and your family history.

Medicated Topical Treatments

Carrots are beneficial for not only your eyes but also for your hair (5). Carrots are rich in beta-carotenei  XA provitamin used by your body to make vitamin A. It is important to note that none of the cells in your body can function without Vitamin A, so it is advised to intake a lot of Vitamin A in your diet. Lack of Vitamin A in foods may lead to hair loss, thinning, and baldness (7). Other options of fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin A are sweet potatoes, yam, pumpkin, mangoes, and apricots.

Some ways to help promote healthier and faster hair growth may include eating more protein, using products made with caffeine, avoiding permanent dye, and reducing stress, among others. Aside from aging, illness, and genetics, malnutrition is one of the most common causes of hair loss. Following a healthy, well-balanced diet can help people maintain typical levels of hair growth and replacement. Childbirth, stress, thyroid conditions, and a health issue called alopecia can cause more sudden loss of hair. Eating a healthful diet, even one designed to support hair growth, may not address genetic or systemic problems. Certain amino acids in protein-rich foods may help promote hair growth, and L-lysine is one example.

Best foods for healthy hair growth

The nutrients support hair follicles' high metabolic rate and cell division. Foods high in protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, fat-soluble vitamins, and B-complex vitamins aid hair growth. Leafy greens, eggs, and fatty fish are just some foods containing these essential nutrients. Both Agyeman and Gohara clocked lean protein as a key nutrient for hair health. This makes sense, because the hair shaft is composed almost entirely of a protein called keratin. Beans, chickpeas, peanuts, soybeans, and lentils are all ace sources of the nutrient and happen to be plant-based—but feel free to lean into your love of chicken breast instead.

Seeds for vitamin E, zinc, and selenium

“Some vegans I have worked with who have both lost weight and removed animal products have also reported hair thinning and or hair loss,” says Kimberly Gomer M.S., R.D., due to nutrient deficiencies. A nutritious diet with the recommended essential nutrients, including protein, antioxidants, iron, and fatty acids, can help support healthy hair growth. Avoiding deficiencies can help prevent hair loss due to a lack of nutrients. If you're looking for simple snack foods for healthy hair, seeds and nuts make an easy addition to any diet. There are so many different kinds to choose from, and various seeds and nuts provide powerful doses of the nutrients we've already discussed. Flaxseeds and chia seeds are good sources of omega-3 fatty acids, while sunflower seeds are chock full of vitamin E and iron.

Protect Your Hair From Heat

The set includes almond, avocado, castor, coconut, and grapeseed oils. If you’re new to carrier oils, this is a good way to try multiple types without investing in larger bottles of each. How long the anagen phase lasts depends on how long your hair is and if the cells in your follicle base are continuing to multiply and become hair cells. (For comparison, next on the list is beef, with just 3.8 mg per serving). If these don’t work, speak with a healthcare professional about other options.

What Doesn't Promote Hair Growth

She has taste-tasted hundreds of products and recipes since joining GH in 2020 (tough job!). A graduate of Fordham University, she considers the kitchen to be her happiest place. Research has also shown that poor sleep quality is a risk factor for alopecia areata (39). When there’s too much vitamin A for the liver to handle, the extra vitamin A goes into circulation, leading to high levels in the blood. Eating fruits, vegetables and protein — the main ingredients in the Mediterranean diet — can be helpful, especially compared to other trendy diets.

Like other scalp oils, castor oil typically is massaged into the scalp and left on overnight to help boost hair growth. Note that there isn't direct scientific evidence supporting the use of castor oil for hair growth, so check with a healthcare provider before adding this to your hair care routine. Some studies have shown certain essential oils like rosemary oil to be as effective as medicated topical products for regrowing hair in certain cases. You may want to try other nutrient-rich oils—like coconut oil, argan oil, and olive oil—that have moisturizing fatty acids that can support a well-nourished scalp. However, supplements can provide a higher concentration of specific nutrients that may be hard or impossible to get from your diet, like vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids. Before starting any supplement regimen, or if you've recently noticed significant hair loss, speak with your doctor.

Vitamin E has powerful antioxidant activity and may help promote hair health by protecting hair follicle cells against oxidative damage, which is known to disrupt hair growth. Flaxseeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds all contain nutrients necessary for hair health, such as vitamin E, zinc, and selenium. Flaxseeds and chia seeds also provide hair-loving omega-3 fatty acids. In one study on mice, the topical application of pumpkin seed oil was shown to promote hair growth, though studies in humans are needed.

Hair follicles are made up of protein, so it makes sense that eating protein is a great way to support hair growth. If you're looking for a vegetarian alternative to animal proteins, try pulses (the dry, edible seeds of veggies) like chickpeas, lentils, beans and peas. The ultimate in deliciously healthy breakfasts—we love it smashed on whole grain toast sprinkled with sea salt—the creamy avocado is packed with healthy fats and biotin. It's also a popular ingredient in many DIY hair masks (hello, self-care Sunday). Avocados also contain vitamin E, an antioxidant that nourishes the hair.

In some cases, supplements containing vitamins and minerals specifically targeted for hair growth, such as collagen and amino acids, may be beneficial. However, it's essential to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen. Tight hairstyles like ponytails, hair extensions, and tightly braided hair can put stress on the hair follicles and lead to breakage and even hair loss. Opting for looser hairstyles or wearing hair down more often can help promote healthier growth. Consider using gentle styling techniques and minimizing the use of heated styling tools that can prevent unnecessary stress on the hair. Potential deficiencies linked to hair health include vitamins B12, D, E, A, and biotin, riboflavin, folate, zinc, and iron.

Using red or blue light devices at home seems to trigger scalp cells to improve blood supply, reduce inflammation, and regenerate the hair. Some studies have found that light therapy was able to significantly increase hair density after several weeks of use. Castor oil products have also been making the rounds as popular methods for adding thickness and length to hair.

Healthcare professionals found that her blood levels of selenium were nearly five times higher than the normal range. Yet, hair loss that occurs 6 months after surgery and beyond may be caused by nutrient deficiencies that develop as a result of surgery-related malabsorption (26). For this reason, the hair is very sensitive to deficiencies in protein and calories, both of which your follicles need in constant supply to grow and function properly (6). The cells that make up the hair bulb, which is the part of the hair follicle that produces hair, have a high turnover rate, meaning new cells grow and replace old cells at a rapid rate (4). The scalp sheds about 100 hairs per day, which can increase with hair care practices like washing and brushing (5).

Agyeman loves pistachios, which contain biotin, a B-vitamin known for its role in maintaining strong and healthy hair. "Additionally, pistachios are rich in antioxidants, which can help protect hair from oxidative stress and damage," she adds. Incorporate them into pesto or crush them to coat fish fillets for a crunchy, nutrient-filled crust.

Nutrition Guides

Iron helps to transport oxygen to the cells in our body which may promote hair growth, says Gans. “When someone is iron deficient, also known as anemic, it is not uncommon to see hair loss,” she adds. Nuts are a great source of some of the essential nutrients for hair growth — and almonds are no exception. Adding a sprinkle to your salads or eating a handful for a snack offers biotin and plenty of plant-based protein. This antioxidant helps prevent oxidative stress that may lead to hair loss,” says Gomer. Use avocados as a side with eggs or have some guacamole as a snack or meal component.

Fatty fish for omega-3 fatty acids and protein

Additionally, embracing looser hairstyles, reducing heat styling, and incorporating periodic trims can safeguard against breakage, ensuring the overall health of your hair as it grows longer. However, it's crucial to understand that individual hair growth depends on various factors such as genetics, overall health, and lifestyle choices. This article will explore effective methods to help promote faster hair growth. Of course, you can find plenty of vitamin C in fruits like oranges, strawberries, and kiwi, but red bell peppers will easily knock your daily value out of the park with 95 mg per 1/2 cup. Plus, they also pack vitamin A and some iron, zinc, selenium, and folate, too.

Look for one with nutrients that are hydrating without leaving a greasy or oily residue. Follow the directions on the product, such as applying it at night to allow the ingredients to work while you sleep. However, some steps may help boost the health and growth of your hair. Applying antioxidants to your scalp may help reduce hair loss and improve the condition of your scalp. Heat treatments work by forming a protective barrier that helps prevent moisture loss when using heated tools.

The greatest attribute of yogurt is its probiotics, which are the good bacteria that help your body absorb nutrients to maintain healthy growth and to sustain a normal, regular hair cycle. Eggs are also rich in a B vitamin called biotin that helps hair grow. One study suggests that for people with a biotin deficiency, taking a biotin supplement may prevent hair loss. Being a protein-rich vegetarian diet, beans and pulses also contain biotin which being deficient leads to hair breakage (14). You may also include biotin supplements in your diet to meet the diet requirements. We all know that fish is one of the best items to include in a high-protein diet.

Tofu is Gorin's preferred plant-based source of protein because it's a complete protein. This means it contains all of the essential amino acids your body needs to function properly, but can't make on its own. And your body (and hair) need plenty of those essential amino acids and protein to prosper. The best step you can take is to prevent hair loss and thinning caused by poor nutrition. During pregnancy, the hormone estrogen causes you to have a higher ratio of hair follicles in the growing phase.

Just one ounce (23 almonds) provides 7.3 milligrams of vitamin E, 48% of your daily requirement. Some studies suggest vitamin E may promote hair health by protecting hair follicle cells against oxidative damage. A lack of proper nutrients, including vitamins A, C, D, and E, zinc, B vitamins, iron, biotin, protein, and essential fatty acids, may slow hair growth or cause hair loss. Bond-building treatments, such as Olaplex or similar products, are designed to repair and strengthen damaged hair. While they don't directly stimulate hair follicles or increase the rate of hair growth, they may indirectly support healthier hair growth by improving the overall condition of the hair.

Pumpkin seeds are an excellent source of magnesium, providing 156 milligrams (mg) or 37% of the DV. Pumpkin seeds also provide zinc, copper, iron, and protein, all of which are essential for hair health. Elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol have also been observed in people with hair loss disorders, such as androgenetic alopecia. Since our hair is made up of protein, it's imperative to load up on healthy sources like eggs, which are also a handy source of biotin. Enjoy them hard-boiled, or try them scrambled in avocado oil for an extra hit of nutrition. There's been a lot of buzz surrounding collagen, and according to both Pritchard and Haber, it's one of the very best things to incorporate into your diet for hair growth.

30+ Best Hair Colors for People with Blue Eyes

best hair color for blue eyes

Darker shades, however, will do a better job at complementing your blue eye color. If you already have dark hair and want to play it safe, stick to warm browns that are two shades within your natural hair color. For dark brown eyes, consider keeping things cool and contrasted with an ash blonde hair color. Try the L’Oréal Paris Superior Preference Fade-Defying Shine Permanent Hair Color in Medium Ash Blonde. The ashy undertones will complement the deep, cool shade of your eyes while the blonde shade will create just the right amount of distinction. As far as statement hair colors go, it doesn’t get bolder than platinum blonde hair.

Best Hair Color for Blue Eyes and Medium and Tan Skin Tone

The color adds a unique charm to the eyes and makes them stand out from the crowd. Blue eyes and black hair color makes the coolest combo and looks unrealistically gorgeous. THE BEST SHADE OF BLUE HAIR FOR DEEP SKIN TONES

Bronze hues in hair dyes can be a bad choice for women with blue eyes and light, pale and fair skins. If you are unsure of what color to try, head straight to the salon and talk to your hair colorist to help you pick a color that will make you look pretty as you deserve. If you are not careful, you will end up as a washed out person when you don’t get the right hair dye here. According to professional hair colorists Scharzkopf (see sources), many women with pale skins tend to have blue green eyes, blue or green eyes. You are likely to blush easily and some of them actually have freckles.

Caramel-Brown Hair With Brown Eyes

If you already have dark hair, adding some warm brown highlights is a low-maintenance non-committal hair refresher. Stick to a brown that’s within two shades of your natural color. If you have blue eyes and are considering a cool-toned brown hair color, ash brown with dark highlights could be a perfect choice. These muted tones provide a dimensional color that complements cool undertones in your skin, enhancing the striking nature of your blue eyes. Warm browns like caramel and honey, as well as golden tones in blonde and bronde, are your go-to shades.

For a deeper bronze-y metallic, Henney loves this shadow in Woodwinked. “This is a staple in my kit, and the bronze-gold metallic finish is so perfect for blue eyes,” she says. It’s a warm, antique shade that brings a lot of depth to blue eyes. You can't go wrong with including both cool- and warm-toned hues in your hair color.

This way of coloring and styling your locks will look amazing on women who are in their thirties. White hair works with blue eyes in the same manner as blonde and platinum do. It allows your eyes to come into perspective without overshadowing them. It is best to wear it during the winter as you will get that festive, wintery look about you. There are many other possible causes for blue eyes, but whatever the cause, they’re widespread and beautiful today. If your eyes are lighter, you should try to stick to the lighter shades.

Regal Orange hair color

When looking at Margot Robbie, you might think that there is nothing better than a blonde color palette to work for light blue eyes. But then Bella Hadid is on the catwalk, we start longing for her brown. Oh, well, how can anyone choose the best hair color for blue eyes without a beauty squad at hand? Exploring the best hair color for blue eyes isn’t just about following trends; it’s about discovering what truly enhances your natural beauty and complements your skin tone. For a cooler, more subdued elegance, ash blonde hair offers a sophisticated option that can beautifully complement your cool skin tone. It’s also a bit easier to maintain than platinum, as it doesn’t show roots as quickly due to its darker tone.

Best Metallic Palette

best hair color for blue eyes

According to Henney, the Mattes palette is especially integral for those with blue eyes. “These are great for more experienced makeup lovers as they are quite a high-quality product, and they have a lot of colors,” she says. The shadows are extremely saturated and smooth, allowing for seamless application. Kristen Stewart takes a rockstar approach to bronded highlights, with something a bit closer to bronde streaks.

Because of this, blue eyes typically go great with brighter hair colors. Blonde, light brown, and pastel tones work best for this eye color. One of the hottest hair colors at the moment, copper hair just so happens to also be one of the most flattering hues for hazel eyes. Try the L’Oréal Paris Excellence Créme Permanent Triple Protection Hair Color in Red Penny.

“The formula acts as both a primer and a liquid eyeshadow, and one of my favorite features is that once it dries, it doesn't crease or smudge. Plus, it has a beautiful light-reflecting finish.” The formula is also boosted with pro-vitamin B5 to keep your delicate eyelid skin nourished. Shades that have green or purplish tones like aquamarine or periwinkle can also make blue eyes stand out. But no matter which type of blue you choose, wear it with confidence, and you'll catch anyone's attention. It may be the most obvious choice, but you can never have too much blue. "People with blue eyes look great in the color because the blue in the clothing naturally enhances the blue in your eyes," says Carr.

Jewel tones are a great option for blue-eyed individuals—they make a statement without being super over the top. Nina Vargas, a stylist and business strategist for fashion brands, recommends deep, rich colors like emerald, sapphire, or ruby. The warm, red, gold and tones create a heady mix of brightness.

Very deep black-brown eyes are strikingly beautiful and you want a hair color that emphasizes them. "I personally think that dark brown works well, but not black," says Bennett. "You can also put some undertones of red to give a magical pop of color." This medium bronde shade with golden blonde highlights is one of our favorites.

Women who enjoy cute looks and those who can commit to the coloring process will enjoy this wispy outcome. Sulfates are cleansing agents that are too harsh on colored hair and notorious for stripping color. Use only sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to gently cleanse your colored strands.

Individuals with blue eyes and a neutral skin tone should steer clear of yellow tones. Rich dark brown, golden blonde, caramel brown, and auburn are excellent choices. Blue-black and icy blond are particularly flattering, making blue eyes stand out.

For blue-eyed gents aiming to subtly enhance their gaze, golden blondes or warm strawberry blondes are your go-to. Ash brown is a versatile shade that looks natural and sophisticated. When paired with dark highlights, it adds depth and complexity to your hair, creating a look that’s both understated and impactful. These shades complement the cool undertones in your skin, creating a harmonious and striking look. Thanks to the warm hints of peach, this shadow leans a bit deeper than champagne. Warm tones in your hair color, like gold and cinnamon, can really brighten up your face and make your eyes stand out.

Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is the nation’s only museum dedicated exclusively to historic and contemporary design, with a collection of more than 215,000 design objects spanning 30 centuries. Barretto Thomas’s work cataloguing Holsinger’s amphipods will pay off in the future. Like the rest of the museum’s collections, these specimens are perpetually available for future studies to address a range of questions, many of which scientists aren’t even able to conceptualize yet. To mark the occasion of Cooper Hewitt’s reopening in 2014, the museum published an expansive book based on its unparalleled collection. Designed by Irma Boom, Making Design features more than 1,100 collection objects, which are organized entirely by Boom’s visual sequencing of images; her design and the curators’ essays weave parallel narratives throughout the book.

History

While Barretto Thomas’ work is exemplary, she is in good company at the Smithsonian with nearly 4,000 on-site volunteers totaling 230,000 volunteer hours just in 2023. Together with the Smithsonian’s more than 12,000 digital contributors who transcribe museum documents, volunteers are almost as numerous as the intricate amphipods Barretto Thomas carefully sorted. Currently, the collection of over 215,000 objects spans more than 30 centuries across cultures from all over the globe.

Landscape Architects Hood Design revitalized the museum’s massive garden. Pentagram and Village are responsible for the museum’s new graphic identity as well as the clear and colorful signage throughout the building, written in Cooper Hewitt’s custom, open-sourced typeface. And don’t forget everyone involved with the interactive media, website and digital collections. The Collection Browser is available on seven tables installed throughout all floors of the museum, giving you access to thousands of objects in the museum’s collection, including those currently on view in the galleries. You can also draw a shape that will bring up a related collection object, or try their hand at drawing simple three-dimensional forms.

IN-HOUSE definition in the Cambridge Learners Dictionary

in house meaning

Content marketing is a popular way of generating more attention for a business. But writing plenty of fresh, engaging content is easier said than done. It requires knowledge of many different and distinct types of marketing, from pay-per-click advertising to inbound content marketing.

Why and How to Outsource to Grow Your Company

This type of customer experience allows car buyers to spend less time at the dealership while also offering a faster sales process for Ford. Other auto companies such as General Motors also have important in-house financing arms. Most of the tasks we pass to in-house software development teams are, technically speaking, pretty basic.

Why In-House Finance: Definition, Meaning in Business, Risks, and Advantages

Dave Nevogt is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder of Hubstaff, a workforce management software company. He has earned a finance undergraduate degree, the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 award, and Arizona's 35 under 35 award. Keeping your workflow organized is crucial, especially when you’re outsourcing.

See what your outsourced talent can do.

Then there’s the issue of building a team and empowering them with the right tools. In conclusion, the difference between ‘in-house’ and ‘in the house’ is significant and should not be confused. Prepositions play a crucial role in English, and their use can significantly impact the meaning of a sentence. It is essential to use the correct phrase to convey the intended meaning accurately. You might be wondering whether to hire another full-time team member or outsource work.

Manage contractors more easily

At least, the definition here isn’t so much related to their end-use or the technology behind them. First, though, we haven’t drilled into the specific use cases for in-house software development so far. We’ve hinted at the fact that the majority of internal projects are pretty simple, but we need a firmer grasp of what most in-house developers actually output.

in house meaning

We can also check out The Cambridge Dictionary and The Oxford Dictionary to see their official entries. In both dictionaries, “in-house” is defined in its hyphenated form. Before you want to use “in-house” correctly, it would help to know whether it’s one or two words. This article will explore the rules surrounding the hyphenated form and what you need to know before you write about it yourself.

in house meaning

After all, the only time that your team can start working on something immediately is when they have nothing else to do already. So, for instance, you might focus on experience with specific tools, frameworks, or specific systems. This is important as it means that you can shape your team around your actual needs. Businesses need different types of visuals developed for their marketing campaigns. However, they might not have the resources to handle all their graphic design needs.

Risks of In-House Operations

That is, we’re in control of the kinds of developers and skills that we want to recruit. You could be forgiven for thinking that internal development teams are a luxury reserved for massive enterprises. While building an effective team is certainly a big investment, this needn’t stop smaller companies from reaping the benefits of in-house dev. For example, “The meeting will be held in the house” means that the meeting will take place inside a building or a home. On the other hand, “The meeting will be held in-house” means that the meeting will take place within the company or organization. In-house is an adjective and adverb that describes something that is done within an organization or business by its employees, rather than by other people.

Freelancers and virtual assistants can handle a lot of this work at a lower hourly rate. Your in-house team members that cost more per hour should do the highest value work while freelancers complete simple tasks at a lower rate. Instead of asking your team to manage tasks like data collection, moderating social media comments, or updating your website, make time for them to focus on the most profitable tasks by outsourcing. You don’t have time to onboard a new team member and you might not need them after the project is done.

The other important caveat is that we need robust governance to stop our citizen developers from undermining other elements of our IT strategy. That is, we can’t allow just anyone to build anything they like. For the most part, this means negating many of the benefits of in-house development that we’ve already seen.

Or, automating one set of tasks might increase demand from stakeholders for other tasks to get the same treatment. In other cases, beginning to digitalize one workflow might make you realize that it’s contingent on other processes, which therefore also need to be digitalized. Even when you manage to find and onboard skilled developers, keeping them in-house is equally challenging.

A car loan from a bank represents the "true" interest rate, while dealers may charge a markup or extra fees for financing a car. On the other hand, dealers specialize in auto loans and may be able to get lower rates for newer cars. Some dealers even offer promotional 0% financing for the first year on a new car. As noted above, in-house financing is a common option for consumers who wish to purchase a vehicle. Ford Credit is one of the most well-known in-house auto financing groups. In January 2017, Ford Credit partnered with AutoFi to make car buying and financing even easier through technology that allows the buyer to shop online for their car and auto loan.

First, the developers themselves will naturally have a deeper commercial awareness than guns-for-hire. Second, commercial colleagues and internal developers have a greater level of access to one another, so it’s easier to share insights and answer queries. There is no clear winner between banks and dealer financing, and it may be worth comparing interest rates from both before making a decision.

Balancing security with usability and efficiency can be tricky, to say the least. One of the most effective weapons in this mission is role-based access control. Budibase offers customizable RBAC at the level of data, queries, screens, or individual components. With Budibase 2.0, we’ve launched custom components and data sources. They settled in the area known today as North Beach, then accessible only by boat. The outings to North Beach became a regular attraction, and thus, the family boat business was born. Initially starting with a chartered launch, Frank ferried guests to and from North Beach for Minorcan Style dinners, oysters, music, dancing and sightseeing along the Matanzas Bay. Shortly thereafter, Frank purchased a 45′ launch stuck on a mud bar. He repaired, refinished and christened it the Victory, replacing the chartered launch, but remaining at the helm as Captain.

Review: What It's REALLY Like Aboard Viking River Cruises 2021

viking cruise complaints

It goes against our guidelines to offer incentives for reviews. We also ensure all reviews are published without moderation. I have some wonderful memories that will stay with me and my mother forever.

Why Cruise to Prague?

Viking River cruise ships are smaller, usually only sailing with 190 passengers at most. The Restaurant is the main dining establishment on Viking Ocean cruises. This is a sit-down restaurant with outstanding service. The restaurant takes two approaches to its menu, splitting it into a selection of classic plates that never change and a daily rotating destination menu created based on your port of call that day.

In the afternoon, we signed up for an optional tour to Colmar. We arrived in the small, quaint town of Basel after our international flight. We had a wonderful time and especially loved how organized the entire Viking journey was, from pre-departure to on-board, everything was seamless.

How to Book Viking Cruises Excursions

We will never go on one of their cruises, and will do everything we can to let people know about this. Viking changed our flight schedule at very short notice. Wanted us to travel with 3 flights via 2 countries, when we complained they hid behind T & C’s very sneaky & very poor customer service, they cited they couldn’t absorb costs of a more direct flight routing. Cannot recommend whatsoever - there are better cruise lines who deliver & care about providing a decent level of customer experience - avoid them if you can. We were supposed to start our river cruise on Viking on the 28th of July on the Danube, first starting a pre trip in Prague. We live in Florida and were due to fly to New York for our flight to Prague on the 27th.

cancelled river boat cruise

On August 7, 2023 we paid for transfers from Munich airport to the port. Viking's response to our dilemma "you should have purchased travel insurance". They would not even refund the transfers that we did not use stating that this was "part of the penalty". On August 8th, Hurricane Dora made landfall on Maui, unleashing powerful winds reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.

Flights & Our Pre-Trip Experience

Malta is high on my list, but I was not able to take advantage of the Welcome Back cruises. Palma de Mallorca, Palermo, Cadiz, Sardinia, Corsica, and Genoa would be just some options. viking cruise complaints

Someone could have forgotten, got distracted, went home sick, computer glitch--who knows? Yes, you are upset, and yes, you are disappointed, but the issue is how to resolve this travel situation. I am a loyal Viking traveler and usually cut them quite a bit of slack for pandemic related issues or other circumstances out of their control. From what you have described, there is simply no excuse. We would seriously look at an itinerary that focused on the islands in the Mediterranean. Or adding new ports in the Med to their line up.

Ludicrous covid rules

Eva Phan is the founder of Eva Darling, a travel and style website aiming to empower women to see the world solo while sharing on-trend, luxury feminine style inspiration. The average age on a Viking cruise is typically in the 70s. On my cruise, the average age was 72 out of over 600 passengers. Though planning my own trips will always be my favorite way to travel, Viking Cruises gave me two weeks of relaxation and rejuvenation that I usually don’t slow down enough for. As much as I hate to admit that my boyfriend was right, he was. Despite everything that went wrong with our cruise, I loved sailing with Viking, even if I didn’t exactly love the destinations we visited.

Took river cruise with my mother (who is 81) and it was perfect. The food was excellent, staff attentive, rooms clean. The included tours all had a gentle option, so mom could do the walking tours as the gentle versions stopped a benches to rest whilst learning the history. The program director Bennie was superb. She balanced engaging with customers, providing guidance on options and whilst extra Viking tours were available I didn’t think she was pushy with sales. It’s a gentle pace and aimed at the older crowd.

Not impressed and wi never book another trip with this company. There is absolutely no excuses for what has happened here. Their response was excellent and thought CS must be a strong point particularly after meeting guests who’d been evacuated on Sky and the compensation they were given which I thought was extremely generous. Sheetskn, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I love Viking, but when they do something wrong they need to own it. Most people are "emotionally invested" in their upcoming cruises, and you are also financially invested for a chunk of money, so know that the majority of us are feeling your pain.

Given Viking Cruises’ older, wealthy clientele, I was panicked about what to wear on a Viking Ocean cruise before embarking. As it happens, my fears were totally unwarranted—several staff members even complimented my Caribbean cruise outfits, secretly quelling my nerves. While it was nice to be on a higher floor, so much thought has gone into a top-notch room experience for Viking passengers that the upgrade didn’t make a noticeable improvement to our experience. The only aspect of our stateroom that didn’t hit the mark was housekeeping. We were originally impressed with our room attendant, who was at our cabin within minutes of us reaching our stateroom to offer extra hangers (massive bonus points). Still, generally, our room wasn’t kept to the standard I’d expect from Viking or a similar luxury hotel.

Viking cruises are geared towards an older, affluent crowd, who make up the majority of passengers. However, travelers of all ages still sail with Viking. On my ship, two other passengers in their young 20s were sailing with their grandparents. Viking River Cruises is the better option for all cruisers, generally. Those boats are even smaller than the Viking Ocean, but they don’t tend to rock as much and usually run smoother. It’s easy to stick to an itinerary despite bad weather when passengers can just hop off board and be bussed down the river.

There is a range of bookable activities that are graded by activity level, and if my mother was slightly younger we would have done more of those. Food was excellent, my mother who is usually a fussy eater enjoyed and ate everything. The menus changed daily and had a range of local dishes and safe favourites.

Because of this, they have the flexibility to turn each propeller a full 360 degrees for precision and smooth sailing so you shouldn’t experience any seasickness on board. We did a fun tour of the wheelhouse and learned from the Captain that Viking ships utilize four propellers instead of a traditional rudder. Enjoying the comfort of a luxurious ship without worrying about transportation from town to town and only unpacking once. We chose to do 2 optionals and on the other days, relaxed on board or went into town to explore on our own! It was a well-balanced pace and I truly felt “on vacation”. The nice thing about this stop is the ship can dock right into town, so you can join the tour or explore on your own.

Our rating system is open and honest, ensuring unbiased evaluations for all businesses on the platform. Not aware of that type of data being available in the public domain. Even if it were available, as shore-ex are so contingent on the guide, I not sure how effective the data would be.

Confirmed all tickets and seats prior to departing. The day before return, found out that all seats on KLM got changed. Called Viking support staffs for information. After long discussion, she finally found out the changes. For our first river cruise experience on Viking, mostly disappointing.
